Many of our patients come from the building industry. One, a roofer, loves his work, but could have been forced into retirement years ago. A heavy job, involving much carrying and climbing, it used to play hell with his back. Now, he simply visits us, as soon as the aches and pains tell him to.

Headaches and migraines wreck lives. For years, one of my patients has suffered ‘cluster headaches’ - daily attacks, for up to 12 weeks at a time. Recently, they started again - just as he was due to go on a cruise. After just one treatment, the problem was reduced to mild discomfort.

Another headache. For two years, one of our patients suffered migraines before her menstrual periods. She had been told that these were hormonal; that, basically, she must grin and bear it. Examination revealed stiffness in the small joints of her neck. 3 treatments stopped the migraines.

Diagnosis is probably the greatest challenge for any health professional. Recently, a patient visited us with sciatica: pain down the back of the leg, caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve. MRI scans showed a problem in the two bottom discs in her spine. The recommended medical treatment was spinal injections, at a cost of £800. However, hands-on chiropractic examination showed that the irritation was caused by a joint in her pelvis, not by the worn discs. The patient is already feeling much better.
